Latte
An espresso drowned in plenty of steamed milk, crowned with a thin layer of foam.
Which coffee
Soft, chocolatey base — Brazil, Colombia.
E.g. roasters: Lomi (FR) · Nomad Coffee (ES)
Base
1–2 espresso
Milk
220 ml
Foam
Fine (~1 cm)
Balance
1 coffee · 4 milk
Milk at
60 °C
Difficulty
2/3
Steps
1Pull an espresso (single or double depending on the glass size).
2Steam the milk into a fine, glossy foam.
3Pour the milk steadily, keeping ~1 cm of foam on top.
Tips
- More milk than a cappuccino: the coffee should stay present but soft.
- A double espresso keeps a latte from getting too diluted in a large glass.
Variations
Iced latte — Espresso over cold milk and ice.
Flavoured — A dash of syrup (vanilla, hazelnut) before the milk.
The Coffee-Note take
The latte is forgiving: if your espresso is a bit sharp, the milk rounds it out. Perfect for taming an intense coffee.
